El Salvador is small in size but large in story, brimming with life, beauty, and possibility. And yet, beneath the surface of its vibrant culture lies the quiet weight of hardship. In homes where work is uncertain and opportunity flickers like a faulty streetlight, education doesn’t always come easily. For many families, the classroom feels like a closed door, just out of reach; yet in the margins, something unexpected is taking root.
Strong Roots
In 2024, Edify expanded its Core School Program in El Salvador, reaching 95 schools. It was more than a statistic; it was a sign of our dedication to invest deeply in the schools we work alongside.
In schools committed to our 3-year Core Program, change is measured not just by test scores or enrollment figures but in the stories that unfold every day. Teachers are no longer just instructors; they are disciples, encouragers, and leaders. Students aren’t just passing through the system; they’re being rooted in a truth beyond the classroom.
The support of our local staff in El Salvador doesn’t just strengthen the schools; it strengthens the communities they serve. A trained teacher becomes a source of stability. A loan-funded classroom becomes a safe space. A curriculum integrated with a biblical worldview becomes the space in which a student’s character takes shape.
One school director, Delmy de Ayala of Colegio Rodolfo Meyer, shared her reflection:
“The Core School Program has been of enormous benefit and blessing to us. Firstly, as a school and team, it has helped us to better structure our work and to achieve goals as a school that we didn’t have as clearly before. Secondly, our students have benefited from… us making changes and adopting initiatives for them. We are now working in areas that were previously neglected or unknown in our school. After one year of working with the program, we have managed to see truly significant improvements and progress, such as a teacher training plan, alignment with government requirements, leadership programs for our students, Christ-centered formation in the curriculum, and other areas that are in progress.”
These schools are no longer waiting for transformation; they are living it.
Living out Transformation
The journey ahead is still long. El Salvador remains a nation with deep needs and complex challenges, but the story isn’t just about what’s missing; it’s about what’s unfolding in the gaps.
Through the Core School Program, God is filling once-empty spaces with learning, faith, and hope; transforming them into vibrant hubs of growth. In time, these seeds bloom into students who lead, teachers who disciple, and schools that shine like beacons in neighborhoods that crave light.
In El Salvador, transformation may not knock loudly. As it quietly builds and emerges in the classrooms, bringing forth light, faith, and learning walk hand in hand.
