Tiger Dawson, Edify’s late CEO and co-founder, was a visionary leader whose energy could fill an entire room. His zeal for the Gospel and deep commitment to Flourishing Godly Nations laid a strong foundation for Edify’s global impact, and his enthusiasm for Christ’s Kingdom drew others into a story far bigger than themselves.
A Dream That Grew Across Nations
When Tiger and Chris Crane began Edify in 2009, it was a simple dream: to see nations transformed through Christ-centered education. It started small and grew steadily, one school leader, one classroom, one partnership at a time. Along the way, the dream took shape as God’s favor ignited the mission of Edify and spread it across 16 countries during Tiger’s tenure. By the end of his leadership, God’s story through Edify had reached more than 45,000 schools and 12 million students around the world, all contributing to the vision of Flourishing Godly Nations.
If you were to ask any Edify staff member how Tiger impacted them, the answers would unfold in a million different ways. Some remember his humor. Others speak of his intentionality, the way he made people feel seen, encouraged, and called higher. But beneath every story, the root would likely be the same: Tiger had a way of pointing people toward Jesus.
Joy, Conviction, and Faithfulness
Whether it was carrying his years of Young Life experience into a conference room in the form of fun and games, or asking a thoughtful, intentional question, Tiger lived enthusiastically, and with a commitment and love for Christ that many have never seen. He had a rare ability to bring joy and conviction into the same moment, to make you laugh, make you think, and invite you to pray. You did not walk away from Tiger just smiling; you walked away with something to pray about and a clearer sense of what faithfulness looks like. And somehow, all conversations with Tiger often felt like an invitation to seek more of Jesus.
Faith Deepened Through Suffering
In the last three years of his life, since his cancer diagnosis, Tiger’s faith did not fade – it deepened. What could have been a season marked only by suffering became, in many ways, a testimony of trust and of standing firm. In that trial, Tiger showed what it looks like to endure with grace, to cling to Christ in pain, and to live out the longing of Philippians 3:10, to know Christ more deeply through sharing in His sufferings. His life and the way he walked through hardship set an example that will continue to call others to faith for years to come.
Tiger gave himself to the work itself, but even more to building others up for the work ahead. He cared deeply that Edify would be sustainable, far beyond his ‘earth days’ as he liked to call them, carried forward by a faithful team who loves Jesus and believes in the mission. Perhaps that is one of the clearest invitations he leaves behind: not simply that he would be remembered, but that others would walk more faithfully with Jesus, lead with conviction and joy, and continue the work of helping children, school leaders, and communities flourish for the glory of God.
