The Need
22% of Students Haven’t Completed Primary School or Have No Education At All
Sharing the island of Hispaniola, the Dominican Republic sits on the eastern side, opposite of Haiti.
Most students stop their schooling after the age of 11, only 18% have completed secondary education.
In reading assessments, 12% of Dominican students performed below the lowest benchmark.
The out-of-school rate has continued to grow. Close to 250,000 students are missing from the classroom, equaling 10% of all enrolled students.
