As a whole, the majority, 80.3%

of the population of India identifies as Hindu with only 2.2% identifying as Christian (Joshua Project). Our focus is on the Northeastern region of India where we find the highest concentration of self-identifying Christians in the country. 

70.5% of children

attend private schools in Northeast India, the highest percentage in all of India.

The region lags economically

behind India, as well as in terms of industrial development and infrastructure.


Edify began a pilot program in 2016.

Halfway through FY2021, we have impacted 21,161 students with a Christ-centered education.

Sem Haokip,
Christian Training and Transformation Officer

Sem Haokip joined Edify September 2016 as the Christian Training and Transformation Officer for Northeast India. Sem has been in the development and poverty alleviation sector since 1996 in various capacities at many organizations, funding agencies, and network NGOs.

Thangminlen (Thangboi) Haokip,
Christian Transformation and Training Officer

Thangboi joined Edify in 2017. Prior to joining Edify, Thangboi served as a Lecturer in a local Bible College for 8 years.  Previously, he served as a Pastor at Kuki Worship Service in Bangalore where he primarily served the youth through conducting vacation bible schools and children’s camps as well as leading seminars at different churches in Manipur.

Thangboi lives in Manipur with his wife and 3 young children.

Sisi Hilsong, Bookkeeper & Business Transformation Officer

Sisi Hilsong Joined Edify in November 2018 and oversees the Northeast India program’s Finance and Accounts as well as to initiate and oversee School business Transformation activities.

Sisi has a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Public College of Commerce Dimapur and Master’s Degree in Commerce from Indira Gandhi National Open University.

Prior to joining Edify, she volunteered to teach high school students.

Sisi is an active member of her home church in Nagaland.
